Robert L. Hogue Papers: American Poultry Historical Society Papers

Introduction

This collection contains personal correspondence between Mr. Hogue, of Purdue University, and many trade association officials, university professors and administrators, State and National government officials and poultry industry leaders. Also contained are files relating to Mr. Hogue's participation in World's Poultry Congresses between 1939 and 1992. Copies of presentations, speeches, etc. given on radio and TV, plus at State, regional and National meetings are included. Also poultry exhibits, show and tours in the United States and foreign countries which were managed by Hogue between 1962 and 1984. An account of very early history (1607) and the growth of the poultry industry in the U.S. through 1967, will be found. Various bulletins published during and following WWII on the need for, availability of, and cost of animal feedstuffs are included, along with numerous publications on poultry housing and equipment used during the mid-1950's. Varied materials on poultry matters which affected the industry in many of the leading poultry states and countries (1883-1990) are presented. Brochures and other material from commercial American and foreign poultry breeders (1944-90) and the performance of their stocks in official egg, meat and turkey tests (1944-70) will be found in this collection. By-laws, correspondence, meeting minutes, etc. relating to various poultry industry organizations in existence between 1940 and 1988 can be found. Included are American Egg Board, American Poultry and Hatchery Federation, American Poultry Association, American Poultry Historical Society, Institute of American Poultry Industries, International Baby Chick Association, Midwest Poultry Federation, National Broiler Council, Poultry and Egg Institute of America and the Poultry and Egg National Board. Reports on the economic impact of various segments of the poultry industry on American agriculture (1935-59) can also be found. The increasing problems from the production, utilization and disposal of animal wastes (1950-85) are also covered in a number of studies and reports. An extensive collection of black and white and color photographs, negatives, slides, lantern slides, 16 mm films and audio recordings of subjects and personnel associated with the industry, plus a 4 x 5 inch soft cover book with severl hundred color pictures of painted eggs, can be found.
